Tips on Remodeling a Small Bathroom
Thinking of giving your small, worn-out, outdated bathroom a facelift? Update your small bathroom with the right fixtures that will make the room look larger.
One of the best approaches to a small bathroom remodel is to keep it simple. The adage "less is more" is also true for small bathrooms. Do not forget about understated elegance if you are trying to create an elegant and luxurious bathroom.
Homeowners commit a mistake in remodeling a small bathroom when they cram in everything they'd like to put in a big bathroom. Some homeowners also choose fixtures, decorative items and the like that are too bulky or too ornate for a small bathroom. They tend to forget that clean simple lines make a space look larger.
First and foremost in remodeling a small bathroom is to reduce the scale of the accessories and furniture in the room. The bigger the items in the bathroom, the smaller the room will feel.
If you are not satisfied with just a shower, consider installing a whirlpool or spa tub that is smaller and deeper (this will fit nicely in a corner). Install a pedestal sink or a wall mounted sink. This will increase the available space in the room and allow you to add additional furniture for storage. Also consider placing a shower curtain. This will make the space look even bigger, since you can leave it slightly open to show the added space behind it.
Use smaller and flatter toilet and washbasin. They can fit into shallow spaces and make the most of every single available space. To make the room look larger, add a mirror with no frame or a mirror with a small frame -- this will reflect light farther in the room.
For bathroom decoration, choose lighter and brighter colors. Install wallpaper or paint design that draws the eye upward to make the room appear larger.
